It is universally acknowledged that economic development will find no space in countries with poor transportation services and infrastructure. In this regard, most countries across the globe have formed transport unions to ensure regulations in the transportation sectors to enhance the overall efficiency of the sector (GuimarĂ£es et al., 2020).
The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) is a trade Union representing commercial drivers and commercial vehicle owners in Ghana. The organization since its establishment in 1967 aims at harmonizing and standardizing regulations in public transportation sector in Ghana.
However, Ghana in the last few decades has been plagued by the problem of poor and inadequate public transportation system (Yobo, 2018). Though, the operations GPRTU is crucial and it contribute significantly to mobility and economic development in many cities and towns in Ghana, The current paper-based ticketing system used by GPRTU branches of which Tarkwa branch is no exception is inefficient, time-consuming, and prone to fraud. Commuters often have to wait in long queues to purchase tickets especially in bigger cities, Passengers have to wait for long hours in queues to and from their various destinations.
